How the Pumpkin Spice Whoopies Began

When LCBO Food & Drink reached out, Carla was still learning the ropes and did not fully grasp what it meant to be featured in a publication like that. She was knee-deep in making butter tarts for a summer event when her phone rang.

The Phone Call That Sparked a New Flavor

Carla never passes up a chance to talk about her baked goods. Marc Smith, from Marc My Travels, asked about her cookies and whether she had anything special planned for fall. She decided to try a Pumpkin Spice Whoopie Pie, even though she had not made one before and was not sure how she would develop the recipe. It sounded good, so she committed to making it.

From First Batch to Fan Favourite

Once the Pumpkin Spice Whoopies were developed, they quickly became fan favourites and remain popular today. Carla's whoopie pies use tender pumpkin-spiced cakes sandwiched with Swiss meringue buttercream and finished with a dollop of caramel. The contrast of the lightly spiced cake, silky buttercream, and sticky caramel keeps people coming back.
